I have an opportunity to buy a 400 5.6 L lens. I went outside today to take some shots with my "fake" 400mm lens - my 200 + 2x TC. When I can get the shutter over 1/1000, it does a very nice job. Where it fails is trying to focus on fast moving subjects - the dogs don't count, but they're cute. Stay tuned to see what happens. I'm really on the fence right now.

More 70-200 manual focus practice
I went out and practiced a bit more today. Using the 70-200 with a 20mm tube works really quite well. I put the drive into "fast" and snap 2 pictures. Usually if the first one has a little hand shake, the second one is just fine. This set-up will work just great in Yellowstone. The trick is to keep the shutter speed way up - like 500 or more.

This or That
Here is a true & funny story that happened tonight. I played in a wonderful golf tournament today and came home about 3 pm all windblown and hot. Darwin was backpacking last night and this morning and got home about noon. We ran a couple of errands and at about 6:00 were getting around to dinner. Darwin had turned on the grill and I stuck some smart chicken hot dogs in the microwave to defrost. Now that is a super Saturday night meal!
Kevin calls from Bread & Cup wondering if I can be spontaneous and come down and take some evening pictures tonight. I say that I can come down as soon as we finish dinner - Darwin had just started cooking the hot dogs. Kevin called right back and said that if Darwin wasn't too attached to the hot dogs that he'd feed us tenderloin. Hmmm....this or that.....well, we chose that! That was seriously delicious!!!
